Day 10: Yamas and Niyamas

by Director on October 9, 2007

With two days to go, there is a definite increase in the energy and vitality of the group as a whole. The dedication to turning up and going through the poses is paying off-and it shows. Today we revised some key principles from the Induction–Yamas and Niyamas (behaviours and thoughts) relevant to Yoga Bootcamp. As we move into stronger stretching, the recruit is hedged in safely by some perameters. These include not forcing, or being violent to the body; being aware that different parts of the body may need special attention; pushing self out of the comfort zone and inertia, but at the same time not being too driven and ‘greedy’ to attain the pose, and accepting that every day is different, every pose is different and that there is no perfect pose. Have a ‘Santosa” day!

Hi SS,
Thanks for this morning’s session, I really feel more energy and quite a bit better today after yoga. Recurring tonsillitis can really knock me about, but I think with bootcamp, it doesn’t know what’s hit it!

I also found the discussion at the beginning in regards to santosa, tapas, etc very useful for me and yoga.

Sgt. Springer is way to cool….she greeted us with the cam hat this morning….We had a laugh at the crack of dawn with stories about chicken’s…eggs and sitting on blocks!!!!…..But feeling fit and healthy, not really wanting the bootcamp to end…… It’s a very friendly group for that hour of the morning…and yes how could I forget the staff meeting!!!

Hi Sargeant Springer I am having a fabulous time at the bootcamp, it’s scary that this is the last week…when does the next one start??? I have been doing two jobs at work during the whole time of bootcamp and I reckon that the yoga has definately given me the extra vitality to carry it off without cracking up!!

I’ll speak to you three, as you have left comments today. I sometimes feel that it is as though life beats us down, and we brace our bodies to resist the grind. You look as though you are taller, lighter …it is wonderful to see people ‘emerging’! Not that you weren’t fabulous 10 days ago, but you are definately achieving the goals we discussed at induction. Well done!
Sergeant Springer.
